Guided Tours on Weekends

Every sunday and on public holidays the museum offers gratis guided tours and films in the cinema of the museum:

  • Always at 2 p.m. and at 4 p.m. the adult visitors face the future during the tour “climate and man”. They discover how the Earth’s climate might develop and which consequences this will have for mankind. The exhibition makes clear the interdependences of climate, humans and environment and covers the past six million years: from the mummified mammoth baby “Dima” to the genetically manipulated pig, from 1.8 million years old stone tools from the Olduvai-Gorge in Africa to modern UV-protection clothing.
  • At 3 p.m. the tour “searching.finding.excavating.” in the permanent exhibition of the museum leads through 250 000 years of human history in Westphalia. In fast motion visitors move through the past, through the time of the Neanderthals, past monumental grave buildings and the legacies of the first farmers up to the very recent past where the debris of bombing shows the horrors of war.
  • The museum cinema shows different films concerning the topic climate. How to predict the weather, for example, is explained by the film “In the weather station” from the sequel “Willi wants to know”. The BBC-documentation “Forces of Nature” makes clear the interdependences of volcanic eruptions, tornados, avalanches and climate changes.

In every case only the admission fee has to be paid. Appointments are not necessary, but recommended. Please call us during the opening hours of the museum under the telephone number 0049 (0)2323 04628-0 or send us an e-mail.
